Landfill Siting Study – Need, Negligible or Nuisance?

The truth is that no one wants to live near or even drive past a landfill.  They have gained a reputation for being noisy, smelly and even poisonous to the groundwater and local wildlife.  It’s hard to make the case for increasing the number of landfills in a given area based on history and the worst current examples of how junk is disposed of all over the world.  It’s really hard to make the case except for the fact that we (humans) need somewhere to bury or burn all of the waste that we are generating from day to day.  Everything is disposable these days and almost nothing is built to last as long as it used to.  Marketing companies convince us to replace items every season, every quarter, or every day.  Fashion changes several times a year, disposable contact lens, coffee mini cups, napkins, bags, and water bottles.   No one wants landfills but almost everyone wants new stuff.  This site is dedicated to exposing that dichotomy, suggesting alternatives and ultimately calling for properly built and maintained landfills.
